HOw Chrome was started

Most business owners, at one pivotal point, ask themselves an important yet crucial question - “Why am i doing this”?……..It’s really a gut punching question because it could strip away years of hard work and re-route you to a different path or it can empower and secure the reasoning for doing what you do.

One night, I asked myself this very question. I said to myself “Am I fulfilled as a photographer? Am I doing everything i can to share myself with the world”? luckily this question was not “why” but rather “how”.

Chrome VC was created and started by professional photographer David Ortega in 2017 as not only a photography business specializing in a wide gamut of styles but also as a way to start a community/support system for other photographers in Northern California and beyond.

The how is this:

Chrome Visual COmpany was created to reach out to other photographers (professional or not) in order to share ideas and create a platform where others can feel empowered.

I have put in all this time and effort as a photographer but i still feel like something is missing from my journey. the answer was somewhat easy actually - have you ever had a moment where the answer was too simple to be true? yeah….this was exactly one of those moments.

“I wanted to create a company that offers much more than frontline photography services. I have been shooting as a semi-pro photographer since the age of 21 but I felt the need to restart in a new direction in order to stay in love with my art. I felt as though I was making the photography business so much about myself that I stopped sharing ideas and became sort of a “lone wolf” - so I started Chrome VC as way to blaze a new trail. The goal with Chrome VS is to have a photography business that roots out to photographers that feel or felt the same way that I did and encourages them to join a community of photographers that welcomes ideas and new ways of thinking. My passion for photography started when I snuck my mother's 35mm point and shoot camera out of the house and shot my first roll of black & white film. As soon as I saw images unfold in the developing bath I was in love. The images were terrible but I remember thinking to myself that I finally found something that excites me and drives creativity. The next few years I found myself inside of a darkroom most of the day and built a creative platform that would shape my entire life.

After spending a few years under the wing of a few special photographers in traditional black and white photography and printing, I set off to attend photography school in Chicago where I graduated from Harrington College of Design with a degree in Digital Photography. My career began shortly after back in my native state of California where I work out of my studio in the North Bay Area.

Art is not a thing - It is a way.
